Ballet

Ballet is the foundation for all types of dancing; because of this we strongly recommend ballet as a pre-requisite for any other type of dance. This class will include terminology, positions, turnout, barre, center, port de bras, and combinations.

Pointe

This is for advanced ballet students only. No student will be placed in this class until evaluated by a ballet instructor to determine if the student’s muscles and technique are strong enough. This class will include terminology, positions, turnout, barre, center, port de bras, and combinations done on Pointe.

Lyrical

Lyrical is defined as dancing to the lyrics while combining ballet and jazz movements. It portrays expression, emotion, and exaggerated body movements with strong technique, all done through telling a story. This form of dance allows the students to freely express themselves through a variety of emotion. Ballet is required for this class.

Jazz

Our jazz program emphasizes bodylines, which require a highly flexible torso, a strong center, and the ability to master fast and accurate footwork. Because the basic steps of jazz are modeled after ballet, we highly recommend the student enroll for an additional ballet technique class. This class will include a variety of turns, leaps, floor work, sharp movements, and numerous combinations.

What is the difference between Jazz and Hip Hop? Jazz style of dance is what is seen in many Broadway type shows such as “Legally Blonde”.  It is a more structured, stage style of dance.  Hip Hop is a fast, high energy type of dance seen in music videos and commercials.  Dance moves seen in performance by artists such as Beyonce, Justin Timberlake and Lady Gaga would be typical examples of Hip Hop.

Hip Hop

A high-energy class that uses the latest sounds in rap, R&B and pop music together with movements influenced by some of today’s hottest video choreographers. Hip hop encompasses movement that has elements of poppin', locking, and breaking as well as freestyle movement to give students the opportunity to develop their own sense of style. Hip hop is urban, it’s street, it’s diverse and forever changing.

Modern

Modern dance technique is designed to develop the mind, body and spirit to be an expressive communicator through movement. Structured technical exercises that condition the body for strength, coordination and flexibility are developed. Physical activities which focus on the aspects of space, time, shape, and movement dynamics are explored through individual work as well as group participation
